Cultivating the Knowledge of God and the Love of Christ

Isaiah 56:7-8

Even them I will bring to My holy mountain (foreigner or gentiles, speaking of the outcasts of society), and make them joyful in My house of prayer.

Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” (speaks of the function not just the title)

8 The Lord GOD, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says, “Yet I will gather to him others besides those who are gathered to him.”(speaks directly of the gentiles; this is a last days prayer movement)

It was never Christ’s intention for us to disciple others in the knowledge of God without us, ourselves, first having hearts of burning desire for God. We have to be connected to the heart, thoughts and emotions of God if we are going to love others with the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:16-19 says that it is we who must first be rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, if we have hopes of establishing others in the knowledge and affections of God. If we are empty and barren of the Knowledge of God what can we offer lost souls?

How does this cultivation of the love of God and the knowledge of the Holy One take place in our hearts firmly?

     1.  By placing ourselves before God and allowing the fire of His love melt our cold hearts.

Placing ourselves in the presence of God is required if we are to become like Him. We do not naturally manifest godliness, but on the contrary, we are naturally of a sinful nature. As we receive the gift of salvation, Paul tells us that there is a new birth that takes place, the birth of the Spirit within us. There is literally a new nature imputed within us, a nature of holiness and love towards God. If this nature is to mature and develop it must be taken care of and nurtured. This happens in the place of communion with our Father and intimate relationship and love with Jesus Christ.

The House of Prayer is a ministry which forms an environment that is ideal for this cultivation to take place. If we are going to cultivate the knowledge of God and a relationship with Christ we must be intentional about it. The House of Prayer allows this to become the primary focus of an individual’s life for an extended period of time, so that they may be strengthened to the point where they can stand on their own. Weak people need help. The House of Prayer Ministry is designed to help weak people who have immature walks with God. And once those weak people become strong in the Lord they understand the necessity of walking out this type of lifestyle (of communion) continually.  This atmosphere is formed through prayer, prophesying, healing, worship, reading, studying, teaching, and preaching, all in a concentrated way.

When we place ourselves before God, His ability to fascinate our hearts is stronger than our ability to resist Him or to disengage because of our boredom. There is a rule with beholding: What we behold, we become like. What ever we allow to flow into our eyes and ears will influence and transform our hearts and minds into the likeness of what we behold. We see this principle with sin. When we behold and embrace sin it provokes us to indulge ourselves in its sinful nature, drawing us in and sucking the life and liberty out of our souls.

So this same principle is true of holiness. When we behold a holy and loving God, we gravitate towards Him and His nature. Like a magnet we are attracted to what we see. As we continue in this we find ourselves caught up in the same experience that Paul speaks of in Romans 12. We become transformed by the renewing of our minds.

     2.  By diligent study of the Word of God with a spirit of prayer.

It is essential that we have the words of Christ, the prophets and apostles alive within us. We are living in a time that the Bible describes the love of many growing cold, it says that men will willing forget the previous judgments of God in Noah’s day, and that men will scoff at His Second Coming Advent, because they will walk according to their own lusts. We are living in a time when the Bible says many false prophets will arise speaking peace and safety, feeding men’s ‘itching ears’ as the world blindly steps into the snare called the Day of the Lord. By all means, we must know what the Word of God says.
